Project Overview
This project at The Legacy OUG, Kuala Lumpur, is a compact studio or small apartment renovation where EverKitchen delivered a practical, warm-toned package across the kitchen, living area TV console, bedroom wardrobes, and a warm-lit glass cabinet display niche. Using a palette of warm grey matte cabinetry, dark charcoal countertops, warm timber lower panels, and warm LED underlighting, the design maximises every square foot of a compact footprint while keeping the home feeling warm and considered throughout.
Homeowner Habits & Needs
The homeowners needed a compact apartment to function efficiently across all daily activities within a tight layout. The kitchen required a full cooking setup with upper storage, a countertop for daily use, and a freestanding refrigerator neatly integrated beside the cabinetry run. The living area needed a floating TV console that kept the floor clear and the room feeling open. A warm-lit glass display cabinet was needed to house personal objects and kitchen accessories with a boutique retail quality. Bedroom wardrobe storage needed to be full-height and space-efficient.
Design Challenges & Pain Points
In a compact apartment where the kitchen, dining, and living zones share a single open-plan space, keeping the visual language consistent across every built-in element is essential to preventing the home from feeling cluttered or disjointed. Using the same warm grey matte flat-panel cabinetry for both the kitchen upper cabinets and the bedroom wardrobes, and introducing the same warm LED strip lighting beneath the kitchen upper cabinets and inside the glass display cabinet, ties the apartment’s built-in elements into a single coherent palette that makes the home feel designed rather than assembled.
Customised Kitchen Cabinets
The kitchen features warm grey matte flat-panel upper cabinets with a dark charcoal stone-effect countertop running the full length of the cooking wall. Warm timber wood-grain lower cabinet drawer fronts introduce a natural material accent beneath the countertop, creating a two-tone treatment that adds warmth to the otherwise grey and charcoal palette. A black undermount sink with a matte black tap sits in the countertop, and warm LED strip lighting recessed beneath the upper cabinet base illuminates the countertop and lower cabinet fronts below. A freestanding white refrigerator is positioned at the end of the kitchen run beside the cabinetry, with upper grey matte cabinets above it completing the storage wall.
Glass Display Cabinet
A tall built-in glass display cabinet with black metal framing is integrated into the kitchen or dining zone wall, with warm LED strip lighting recessed along the internal shelves casting a warm amber glow across the displayed objects. Kitchen accessories, small appliances, and personal display objects are arranged across the open glass shelves, giving the display cabinet a warm, boutique quality that elevates everyday kitchen items into a considered display feature. The black metal frame detail adds a contemporary industrial accent to the warm grey and timber palette.
TV Console & Living Area
The living room features a floating grey matte TV console with open lower shelving and a flat panel door section, mounted on the wall to keep the floor clear and the room feeling spacious. The TV is wall-mounted above the console, and personal objects, remotes, and a coffee cup sit on the console surface, giving the living zone a lived-in, personal quality. The same warm grey matte finish of the TV console ties it back to the kitchen upper cabinets and bedroom wardrobes, maintaining material consistency across the open-plan apartment.
Bedroom Wardrobes
The bedroom features floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobes in warm grey matte flat panels with slim handles, spanning the full bedroom wall. The consistent flat-panel finish keeps the bedroom calm and uncluttered, and the same warm grey tone carries the kitchen and living room palette through into the sleeping zone, making the apartment feel cohesive from end to end.
