Project Overview

This project at Taman Nirwana, Ampang, is a classic double-storey landed home renovation where EverKitchen delivered a warm, timber-forward package spanning a full-height warm oak staircase wall cladding, a large warm-lit open bookshelf and display wall, practical under-stair storage cabinetry, a bedroom wardrobe, and kitchen upper cabinetry. Warm amber LED strip lighting integrated into the bookshelf wall and staircase vertical channel creates a home that feels rich, warm, and personal at every level.

Homeowner Habits & Needs

The homeowners of an older double-storey landed home wanted to modernise the interior while retaining the warmth and character of a lived-in family home. The staircase wall needed to be transformed from a plain surface into a warm, considered feature. A large family book and display collection needed a dedicated full-height shelving wall with warm LED lighting. Practical low-profile storage cabinetry was needed at the under-stair zone and beside the staircase base. The kitchen required practical upper storage cabinetry, and the bedroom needed a clean, full-height wardrobe solution with a window-side open shelf niche.

Design Challenges & Pain Points

Renovating an older landed home with an existing traditional timber balustrade staircase requires the new built-in elements to complement rather than clash with the existing architectural character. Cladding the full staircase wall in warm oak timber-grain panel and running the same warm oak panel across the wall flanking the bookshelf zone gives the entire ground floor a unified timber warmth that feels consistent with the home’s existing timber balustrade and stair treads rather than imposing a completely new aesthetic. A vertical warm LED strip integrated into the staircase wall panel at the stair base provides a contemporary lighting detail that modernises the space without disrupting the warm traditional timber character.

Staircase Feature Wall

The staircase wall is fully clad in warm oak timber-grain flat panel running from the ground floor to the upper floor ceiling, with a slim vertical warm LED strip light channel integrated into the panel at the staircase base. The warm amber LED vertical light runs flush with the panel surface, casting a warm glow upward along the staircase wall and highlighting the timber grain texture. A low-profile white flat-panel storage unit sits at the base of the staircase beside the newel post, providing a small practical storage piece that grounds the staircase zone without interrupting the timber wall above.

Bookshelf & Display Wall

A full-height open bookshelf and display wall in warm oak timber spans the full height and width of the living room or study alcove wall, with multiple rows of open shelving compartments across both upper and lower sections, separated by a wide central display zone. Warm LED strip lighting is recessed along the top inner edge of each shelf row, casting a warm amber wash downward across the displayed books and objects. White flat-panel closed storage cabinetry occupies the lower section of the bookshelf wall, providing concealed storage beneath the open shelving. The combination of warm timber open shelving above and clean white closed cabinetry below is a practical and visual balance that gives the bookshelf wall a library-quality presence within the living room.

Under-Stair & Corridor Storage

Under-stair storage is addressed through a combination of a flush push-to-open door panel in warm oak timber grain integrated seamlessly into the staircase wall cladding, concealing a storage void behind the staircase. The flush door reads as part of the staircase wall panel rather than a visible cabinet door, keeping the staircase wall clean and uninterrupted from a distance.

Kitchen Upper Cabinetry

The kitchen features warm grey or greige matte upper cabinetry above a terrazzo or stone-effect countertop surface, with warm LED strip lighting recessed beneath the upper cabinet base. The warm LED wash across the countertop and a practical corner pull-out storage solution visible in the lower cabinet zone keep the kitchen functional and bright within the warm material language of the rest of the home.

Bedroom Wardrobe

The bedroom features full-height built-in wardrobes in a warm light grey matte finish with slim bar handles, with an open shelf niche built into the wardrobe run beside the window, providing a display shelf with natural light from the window beside it. The open niche breaks up the flat-panel wardrobe surface and gives the bedroom a considered detail that keeps the room from feeling like an entirely closed storage wall.

Design Philosophy

At EverKitchen, a renovation of an older landed home is an opportunity to bring warmth and considered craftsmanship into a home that already has character. At Taman Nirwana, warm oak timber cladding, warm LED-lit open bookshelves, and flush concealed under-stair storage modernise a classic landed home without erasing what made it feel like a home in the first place.
