Project Overview
This project at Taman Mamanda, Teluk Panglima Garang, is a landed home renovation with a distinctive cultural character, where EverKitchen delivered a warm, rich timber-forward package spanning a full L-shaped kitchen in warm walnut timber-grain cabinetry, a dedicated prayer altar wall with dark walnut vertical slat panelling and warm LED niche lighting, a charcoal grey shoe cabinet, and a warm timber-clad TV feature wall. Rich timber tones, dark countertops, and considered LED lighting give this home a warm, grounded, and culturally respectful interior throughout.
Homeowner Habits & Needs
The homeowners needed a fully equipped kitchen with a practical L-shaped layout, integrated appliances including a built-in oven, microwave, and full-height refrigerator, and ample upper storage. A dedicated prayer altar space was a central requirement, designed with care and warmth to create a proper devotional zone within the home. A shoe cabinet at the entry and a TV feature wall in the living area completed the brief for a home that balanced practical function with cultural significance in equal measure.
Design Challenges & Pain Points
Designing a prayer altar wall that is visually rich and respectful requires the right material and lighting combination to elevate the space without making it feel theatrical. Dark walnut vertical slat panelling on both sides of the altar niche creates a warm, timber-framed surround that gives the altar zone a considered architectural presence. Warm LED strip lighting recessed into the top and base of the altar niche casts a warm amber glow across the deity statue and devotional objects, creating a warm halo effect that is reverent without being overly dramatic.
Customised Kitchen Cabinets
The kitchen features warm walnut timber-grain upper and lower cabinetry across the full L-shaped layout, with a dark charcoal stone-effect countertop running the full length of the cooking wall and wrapping around the corner. A gas hob with a large black chimney hood sits in the cooking zone, and an open dish rack is integrated into the upper cabinet run above the sink. A stainless steel refrigerator with a built-in microwave and oven in a dedicated tall appliance column sit at one end of the kitchen run, keeping all major appliances integrated and off the countertop. Warm LED strip lighting is recessed beneath every upper cabinet base, casting a warm amber wash across the dark countertop and reinforcing the richness of the walnut timber cabinet fronts. Zebra roller blinds at the kitchen windows provide practical light control while complementing the warm timber palette.
Prayer Altar Wall
The prayer altar wall features a recessed central niche in white with a dark charcoal shelf, framed on both sides by full-height dark walnut vertical slat panels that create a warm, timber-surround effect. Warm LED strip lighting is recessed into the top inner edge and base of the altar niche, casting a warm amber glow downward across the Ganesha deity statue and devotional offerings within. The combination of the white recessed niche, dark walnut slat surround, and warm internal LED lighting gives the altar wall a sacred, considered quality that honours the devotional function of the space within the overall warm timber character of the home.
TV Feature Wall & Living Area
The living area features a warm timber-clad TV feature wall with the television mounted at centre height, framed by warm walnut timber panel cladding and warm cove lighting above. The timber panel language of the TV wall connects directly to the kitchen cabinetry and the altar wall slat panels, tying all three of the home’s main feature elements together through a consistent warm walnut timber material thread. A ceiling fan above the living area and zebra blinds at the windows complete the living zone with practical comfort details.
Shoe Cabinet
A compact charcoal grey matte flat-panel shoe cabinet with black bar handles is positioned at the home entry zone, providing practical shoe storage at the entrance in a clean, minimal finish that contrasts the warm timber palette of the interior beyond it.
Design Philosophy
At EverKitchen, a home with cultural significance deserves built-in elements that honour that significance with the same care given to every other room. At Taman Mamanda, warm walnut timber cabinetry, a warm-lit prayer altar niche, and a rich dark countertop kitchen combine to create a home that is functional, warm, and deeply personal in equal measure.
