Project Overview
This project at Sky Condominium, Puchong Jaya, is a compact apartment renovation with a distinctly personal character, where EverKitchen delivered a warm two-tone kitchen in cream and warm oak timber, a dark stone countertop, a kitchen peninsula, and a standout warm amber-lit open display cabinet that serves as the home’s most personal and expressive built-in element. A large personal collection of travel fridge magnets displayed on a full-height refrigerator, shelves of collectibles, miniatures, and memorabilia, and a Liverpool FC wall print give this home a warm, lived-in personality that the built-in joinery frames and celebrates rather than conceals.
Homeowner Habits & Needs
The homeowner is an avid collector and traveller whose home needed to accommodate and showcase an extensive personal collection across multiple display zones. A warm amber-lit open display cabinet with multiple shelving compartments was central to the brief, providing a dedicated gallery wall for collectibles, miniatures, books, and personal objects. The kitchen needed to be functional and warm in tone, with a dark countertop that would hold up to daily use, and a peninsula that created a casual kitchen boundary and additional workspace. The refrigerator, fully covered in travel fridge magnets from around the world, was embraced as a design feature rather than concealed.
Design Challenges & Pain Points
Designing a display cabinet for an extensive personal collection requires the shelving structure to be generous, flexible, and warmly lit so the collection reads as curated rather than cluttered. A full-height display cabinet with black metal frame detailing and multiple open shelving compartments, each backlit by warm amber LED strip lighting, gives every object displayed within it a warm, museum-quality illumination that makes even small figurines and miniatures read with presence. Combining the warm amber display cabinet with a cream and warm oak kitchen creates a cohesive warm palette across the open-plan apartment that embraces the homeowner’s personal objects as part of the design rather than working around them.
Customised Kitchen Cabinets
The kitchen features cream matte flat-panel upper cabinetry paired with warm oak timber-grain lower drawer and door fronts, creating a warm two-tone treatment across the straight kitchen run. A dark charcoal stone-effect countertop runs the full length of the cooking wall, with warm LED strip lighting recessed beneath the upper cabinet base casting a warm amber wash across the dark countertop surface. A built-in hood is integrated into the upper cabinet run above the hob zone. A Samsung black French-door refrigerator sits at the end of the kitchen run, its door surface fully covered in a personal collection of travel fridge magnets from countries across the world, making the refrigerator the most personal and visually striking element in the kitchen.
Kitchen Peninsula
A compact kitchen peninsula with a dark charcoal stone countertop and warm oak timber lower panel extends from the main kitchen run into the open-plan living zone, providing a casual kitchen boundary, additional workspace, and an informal counter for daily use. The warm oak timber lower panel of the peninsula matches the lower kitchen cabinet fronts, tying the peninsula into the main kitchen as a unified piece rather than a separate island.
Open Display Cabinet
A full-height open display cabinet with black metal frame detailing, glass shelf panels, and warm amber LED strip lighting on each shelf is positioned in the living or dining zone, serving as the home’s personal gallery wall. Multiple shelving compartments across the full height of the cabinet display a curated collection of miniature figurines, model vehicles, decorative objects, books, and personal memorabilia, each item warmly illuminated by the amber LED shelf lighting. A white flat-panel closed storage section sits beside the open display shelving, providing concealed storage within the same built-in unit. A cork board panel at the lower section of the display wall provides a practical pin-board surface for notes, photos, and daily reminders. The warm amber glow of the display cabinet is the visual centrepiece of the living zone and the heart of the apartment’s personal character.
