Project Overview
This project at Verando Residence, Petaling Jaya, is a compact apartment kitchen renovation where EverKitchen delivered a sharp two-tone kitchen combining slate grey high-gloss upper and lower cabinetry with a white marble-effect countertop, a fully integrated black French-door refrigerator, a built-in open display niche with warm LED backlighting, and a complete L-shaped cooking layout. Bold without being loud, the kitchen makes strong material choices within a tight footprint.
Homeowner Habits & Needs
The homeowners needed a compact kitchen that felt complete and well-appointed, with space for a large French-door refrigerator integrated into the cabinetry line, a full cooking setup with induction hob, hood, and undermount sink, and sufficient upper cabinet storage across the full kitchen wall. A warm-lit display niche for personal objects or daily essentials was requested as a deliberate design accent to break up the flat-panel cabinet run.
Design Challenges & Pain Points
Fitting a large French-door refrigerator into a compact kitchen without it dominating the space requires integrating it flush against the cabinetry line and matching the upper cabinet height to the refrigerator top, so the appliance reads as part of the built-in wall rather than a freestanding item dropped into a gap. Using slate grey high-gloss cabinet fronts across both the refrigerator-adjacent cabinetry and the cooking wall creates a seamless surface that makes the kitchen feel larger than it is, while the white marble-effect countertop and backsplash provide the contrast needed to prevent the dark palette from reading as heavy.
Customised Kitchen Cabinets
The kitchen features slate grey high-gloss flat-panel upper and lower cabinetry across the full L-shaped layout, with no visible handles, relying on push-to-open mechanisms for a clean, uninterrupted surface. A white marble-effect countertop runs the full length of the cooking wall and wraps around to the sink corner, with a matching marble-effect ceramic tile backsplash tiled full-height behind the hob zone. An induction hob sits flush in the countertop, and a black undermount sink with a matte black gooseneck tap is set into the countertop at the corner zone. A black glass chimney hood with a built-in open dish rack above the sink is integrated into the upper cabinet run, keeping the dish drying area neatly within the kitchen wall zone. Warm LED strip lighting runs beneath all upper cabinet bases, casting a warm amber wash across the countertop and backsplash below.
Refrigerator & Appliance Integration
A large black French-door refrigerator with a flat black panel door and integrated black handle is positioned at the end of the kitchen run, flush with the upper cabinetry height. Matching slate grey high-gloss upper cabinets run above and beside the refrigerator, making the appliance read as part of the built-in kitchen wall rather than a standalone unit. The black refrigerator door against the slate grey cabinetry creates a bold tonal contrast that anchors the end of the kitchen run with a strong material presence.
Built-In Display Niche
A recessed open display niche with a warm oak timber backing panel and warm LED strip lighting is built into the corridor or entry wall adjacent to the kitchen, providing a warm-lit shelf for personal objects, small plants, or daily essentials. The warm amber glow of the niche against the otherwise grey and white kitchen palette introduces warmth at the kitchen entry point and gives the apartment a considered welcome detail from the front door.
Bedroom Wardrobe
A floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobe in a light grey matte finish with slim black bar handles is positioned in the bedroom, with upper and lower panel proportions creating a two-register layout. The clean, minimal wardrobe surface keeps the bedroom calm and uncluttered, allowing the kitchen’s bolder palette to carry the design character of the apartment.
